The OTC was created in 1989 and helped curate the “Treaty Land Entitlement Agreements between 28 First Nations and the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan.” Staff then documented historic accounts of treaty-making through academic studies, and traveled around the province soliciting “Elders to share some of their vast knowledge about the treaties in Saskatchewan,” gathering oral testimonies in Dene, Nakoda, Saulteaux, and Cree languages “from the Elders who are the keepers of oral tradition and history” (vii–viii).
